In the year 2045, the actual world is a brutal location. The single real time Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) really feels alive is if he flows into the OASIS, an immersive digital world where a lot of humanity spends their times. From the OASIS, it is possible to go everywhere, do anything, be anyone-the only limits are your creativity. The OASIS was made by the brilliant and bizarre James Halliday (Mark Rylance), who abandoned his own immense fortune and overall charge of the Oasis to the winner of a three-part competition he made to locate a worthy heir. When Wade accomplishes the very first challenge of this reality-bending treasure investigation, he along with his friends-aka the High Five-are hurled to a fantastical world of discovery and danger to conserve the OASIS.
