
The Girl with All the Gifts
A British take on the zombie apocalypse, The Girl with All the Gifts is a horror drama adaption of the novel of same name by M.R. Carey. The movie is directed by Colm McCarthy and is written by M.R. Carey. The plot of the movie moves around Melanie, who looks like an average ordinary girl. Her life was as simple as you can expect it to be,and it is not a regular school where you go and learn something. This is a place where you can do nothing with your freewill.
Humanity is going to face the worst damage by some fungal disease in near future. People who are victim of this disease will turn into zombie who craves for flesh. The only hope for the humankind is the bunch of children who are hybrid. These children like the diseases affected one crave for the flesh, however, they do have the ability to learn and think. They zombie element of this movie makes viewers but the direction makes it move a worth watch. The story moves on with children going to this so called school which at some army base in Home Counties. Dr. Caroline Caldwell, played by Glenn Close, is using these children as a subject to some type of experimentation. Helen Justineau, played by Gemma Arterton, is a kind hearted person who believes in teaching all children fairly, even though they are living in cells, trapped in wheelchairs and are also constantly under supervision of armed guard. With every passing day, Helen is growing fond of Melanie who is a calm and exceptional girl with amazing IQ level. However, not everyone in this school wants the student to get along with Helen since they are just subject to experimentation for them.
Caldwell is shown undertaking the children for experimentation in regards of an antidote she is doing her research on. She riddles Melanie with puzzles, which Melanie manages to solve exceptionally due to her high IQ and reasoning abilities. The protagonist of the movie has a very strong character. It is impossible to feel strong vibes that she sends throughout the movie. The movie goes on with Caldwell unwillingly takes Melanie to her lab, where she sees a conserved brain of a child of cell number 13, the cell of the number that she had made Melanie pick beforehand. She then ties Melanie to a table. Upon seeing this, Helen hurries into the lab and tries to save Melanie from Caldwell, taking into account that it is only obvious that Caldwell is after Melanie’s brain and spinal column, for one of her experiments. Thanks to the efforts of Helen, Melanie manages to escape from the lab, and jump on a van to escape from the hungriest and soldiers that were outside the lab. The group passes through London to come across a large number of infected and decomposed bodies going in circle around the BT Tower. They send Kieran out to find food for them, but she is in danger. This movie is definitely something that you would enjoy match since it keeps its viewer engaged from start till very end.
