Wonder Wheel
From the hustle and bustle of 1950s Coney Island, in which the buzzing audience goes and comes trudging gradually over the wooden boardwalks, hushed stories of those regular toilers that give life to the allure unfold. Somewhere at a clam bar, there is the gloomy waitress Ginny, a one time celebrity and a suffering wife who has been given a second chance by the face of the well-intentioned but uncouth carousel operator, Humpty. On the flip side, there is Humpty’s 26-year-old estranged daughter, Carolina, who abandoned the familial nest along with a preordained future searching experience for a mobster’s spouse; just to return home with her wings broken, begging for forgiveness. And by the lifeguard’s high tower, where all is in plain sight, the youthful and enchanting lifesaver and optimistic playwright, Mickey, is your casual but powerful catalyst which binds everything together. Shattered dreams, reckless love and betrayal, all beneath the glowing lights of Coney Island.
